Now at the beginning of the 21st century, the use of the internet and mobile phone is becoming ever more popular. Even the older members of the club now have email addresses. Gay marriage or civil unions are fully legal in Canada, Spain, Netherlands, South Africa, and several other countries. The reality show phenomenon is still in full swing and, just like 20 years ago, AIDS is still a worldwide epidemic.
As technology progressed, FRNY eventually did not have a need for the hotline number it had for almost 20 years. Instead, information is found through the FRNY website, by word of mouth, and our annual NYRR sponsored Lesbian and Gay Pride Run.
FRNY members participated in Gay Games 2002 held in Sydney, Australia, and Gay Games 2006 held in Chicago. The club also started its annual FRNY Cross-Country meet at Van Cortlandt Park in 2003. Photo below left was taken from the 4th Annual FRNY Cross-Country meet in 2006 and the one on the right was from the Pancake Breakfast 2006.
To celebrate the beginning and culmination of each year, FRNY started its annual Awards Night in 2003. It is the club's only formal event of the year where members pay tribute to honorary members and watch a photo slideshow showcasing main events of that year.
Even though new events were held in the recent past, our club traditions of organizing the Lesbian & Gay Pride Run, volunteering at the 24th mile water station of the NYC Marathon, running the Blue Line Run, participating in Gay Games, and having a yearly membership picnic are still strong and active to this day. We still meet at Rutgers church (shown below with FRNY members Dan & Peter with their baby son) for our Wednesday and Saturday fun runs.
