So you might not be able to compete in Beijing next summer but with Gay
Games just around the corner, you can hit the track running in Cologne
in 2010. Every four years gay athletes flock for the good times,
healthy competition and great social scene. FRNY coordinates travel and
lodging through the host city and a mix of members always represents the
team in fine fashion.
In 2006, Gay Games was in Chicago and Out Games was in Montreal and FRNY sent contingents to both
venues. The team had scores of medalists at both locations and brought
back many a tale of social misadventure and international camaraderie.
Four years earlier FRNY basked in the sun and the track and field glory
at Gay Games Sydney 2002. Again successes were found from many of our
runners at several different distances.
Front Runners New York runners have participated at every gay games since its inception in 1982. The first Gay Games was held in San Francisco back in 1982. Pictured here are the medalists of the first Gay Games marathon. From left to right are: San Francisco Front Runner Bob Plantz (Gold), FRNY member Guy Zelenak (bronze) and FRNY member Marty King (silver). Marty King later became FRNY president in 1993.
