FRNY participates in many regional relay races such as Easy Does It, Need for Speed, and the Reach the Beach relays. There are also other relay races that FRNY members participate in such as the Hood to Coast relay in Oregon.
FRNY has been doing the Easy Does It and Reach the Beach relays for several years now. Both are popular and cater to different types of runners. The Easy Does It relay is held right here in our own backyard. It takes place in the West 30's of Manhattan around the Penn Station rail yards. Each relay is composed of 4 runners who run consecutively shorter distances from 4k, 3k, 2k, and 1k distance.
The Reach the Beach relay is an overnight, 200+ mile relay race from the mountains of New Hampshire to Hampton Beach on the Atlantic. FRNY usually hosts two teams of 12 runners each and in the past has had a dedicated women's team and also an ultra runners team of only 6 runners. This is a popular race and is a great way to spend time with and get to know better fellow Front Runners.
Some members also participate in the running leg of triathlon relays with FastnFab, NYTritons, and Team New York Aquatics. In fact, past president Kelsey Louie has a perfect 1st place record in all the triathlon relays he has finished.
Other relays occur throughout the year and are usually announced after the Saturday fun runs and also in the Front Runner Gram. All runners are encouraged to participate.
